Union Square: Stuffed Chicken Breasts

"Your body will argue that there is no justifiable reason to continue.  Your only recourse is to call on your spirit, which fortunately functions independently of logic."  - Tim Noakes Another snow storm is expected to hit our neck of the woods.  More snow… UGH!  Ted said to me this morning “If we have another winter like this one, we’re moving!”. We’re in the toughest month of the year in my book: February.  It’s cold, no more football, serious training month for Spring marathons, it’s a tough month! But we like tough right? I mean, that’s WHY we challenge ourselves. [...]

Benefits of Both Spouses Being Fit

It was another frigid morning.  The alarm went of and I got up. The dogs followed me into the bathroom where we have a wireless weather station.  *A very handy place to have a weather station since you can sit and contemplate options for the day based upon rain or shine, warmth or cold. The outside temperature read 4 degrees.  I thought “I can’t do this again. I’m just not in the mood.”  I turned right around, both dogs still following in expectation of suiting up and going outside, stood by the bedroom door, they left the room, I shut [...]

Positive Affirmations and Buckeyes

I just put my training plan together for the fall marathons beginning on September 22nd and ending with Syracuse on October 20th.  With this long 19 week session comes the need for a little motivation.  I started with Positive Affirmations sent daily at 7:30 am to my iPhone. Example:  ”Whether you decide you can or you can’t, you’re right” The other boost added to my daily reminder of “feel good” media was a desk top message. Do you use positive messages to overcome doubts and fears? Speaking of marathons, after the Flying Pig in Ohio I figured I’d celebrate my [...]

Embrace Resolutions and Planning a Route

I stopped making resolutions years ago. Good intentions would last for about two weeks but then fall by the wayside about mid January. I do set goals and challenges for myself but don't invent them “willy-nilly” at the turn of the year. They are well thought out and I work towards them utilizing a defined plan. I found a neat anagram from My Inner World  which uses the word "FACE" to help resolution makers stay on track for the new year. It appealed to me because of the challenges I've set for myself in 2012. If I can keep this [...]

It’s That Time

It’s that time in training when self doubt starts.  I begin to doubt my training. I review the miles I’ve run in the last four months, how many long runs over 17, how much speed work, training pace times, and begin to wonder whether I’ve done enough. I look at my past training plans for the first marathon, then the second marathon. Negative thoughts come to mind: I haven’t run as many miles. I haven’t run as fast. Those marathons were net downhill.  Then Ted says to me “The confidence will come with experience. This is only your third marathon.” [...]

Getting Through It and Morning Fruit

It was a rainy morning.  The alarm went off and I got up, went through the ritual of brushing teeth, putting on workout clothes and tying back hair, then I went downstairs and laid on the sofa to listen to the rain. I fell asleep.  When the kitchen light went on, because Ted was getting ready to workout, I went back upstairs, got under the comforter and fell asleep once again while listening to the rain.  I love listening to the rain but never allow myself time to stay in bed and enjoy it.  This morning I did. There were [...]
