The Swim and Cumin Chili Cod with Warm Corn Relish

Last night Ted and I took a swimming class at the Community College. The class lasted an hour.  It was an intermediate swim but there was a lot of standing around listening to the instructor.    Ted was the “bad boy” in the class: talking while the instructor was talking, poking me while I was trying to do the breathing exercises, etc.  He’s going to get in “deep water” with the instructor and he'll try to take me down with him.  At one point, I got so much water up my nose because he made me laugh. Good thing it was [...]

Training and Arnold Sandwich Thins and Sweet Potato BGT Chili

Friday training:  What ever happened to my Friday Off rule?   It seems to have been tossed out the window when the training for a marathon came into play.  So today was running, no weights, just focused running.  A 2 mile warm up.  A 3 mile tempo run.  1 mile easy pace.  Shane and I went out the door for another 3.3 easy miles.  Total Miles = 9.3.    Six more miles on tap for tomorrow to meet the goal of 50 for this week. How’s the  hamstring you ask? It felt heaps better today, barely noticeable.  It was getting a little [...]

Point 12 from goal run and Grilling Pizza

It was such an easy, relaxed run on Friday, it left me really looking forward to another run Saturday morning.  My legs were restless all day, longing to hit the road again.  What happens to that excitement during the 6 1/2 hours of sleeping?  It was 5:30 and my eyes were open.  I looked across the room towards the window.  It was just beginning to show the morning light.  “Grrr…I should get up and run.  Ted’s in the bathroom. Wish he’d hurry up and get outta there”.   Shane knows I’m awake and starts to whine and fuss. The bathroom is [...]

All That Good Food: Mezzetta Party

It all began back in November when Mezzetta sent us samples of their wonderful products.  We received Marinated Artichokes, Sundried tomatoes, Roasted Red Peppers, and recipes for hosting a “Mezzetta 20 Minute Miracle Party” featuring Mezzetta Martini’s.  We thought this would be a great plan for around the Christmas holidays.  The perfect little gathering of friends. Our party wasn’t a 20 minute Miracle party.  I turned the samples we received into a vast array of dishes in an attempt to please every palate.  Ted was in charge of the Martinis   The first martini offered to guests was the “Savory [...]

Two Tapenades

First, the Argument: In my email yesterday, I received a 20% discount coupon from a well known sporting goods company. I clicked on the coupon and entered their site.  I ended up placing an order that was over $100.  Then it hit me.  SHOOT! I forgot to add the coupon. Upon receipt of the confirmation of my order, I responded, kindly asking if they would apply the discount. I received a response that said the coupon expired on December 8th.  WHAT?! I JUST received it in my email on the 17th.  I picked up the phone and had a somewhat steamy conversation [...]

Bagel Bust and Lemon Artichoke Spread

Did any one ever make the claim that a bagel was healthy?  Multi Grain? Whole wheat?  What ever the ingredient, it’s the size that matters. The ones they sell around Utica should be sliced and labeled to serve 4 people. They are HUGE and so, so very good.  Especially the Panera’s French Toast Bagel!  My fall from grace this week was the Gingerbread bagel.  Sue helped me nibble at that one.   Why are Panera’s breads so good but their coffee so HORRIBLE!  I don’t think they clean the decanters.  I’ve come to the realization that I only stop at Panera’s [...]
