Marathon Recap

St George Marathon 2017

This is the most scenic and easiest marathon I’ve ever run and there has been 26 of them to rank. Coming from upstate New York, this wasn’t going to be a quick weekend run. No way were we passing up all the scenic byways of Utah.  We had 3 ½ days to soak it all in and that, we found out, was no where near enough time. We did our best however, arriving in Vegas Thursday afternoon, a quick visit with family then headed out to Cedar City, UT for an overnight at a slightly higher elevation than St. George.  [...]

Eversource Hartford Marathon 2016 Recap

The Hartford Connecticut marathon was my goal race for the fall. I began with a warm up marathon in Marquette MI and logged a pretty good time. Not one of my best but better than my last few marathons. My goal has been to simply overcome the mental hurdles that life has thrown my way in the last year and a half and hope for at least a time of 3:50 in Hartford. Although I didn't quite do it, I was closer and that gives me hope for next time. Hurricane Matthew was hitting the Carolina's and ended up pouring [...]

Marquette Marathon Michigan 2016

It seems the week of a marathon I get completely miserable, depressed, and anything to worry about I will worry about, not even marathon related.  If I want to continue running these 26.2’s, this has to stop! Ted and I set out for Marquette Michigan on Wednesday September 2nd for a two day drive with Zoey and Luke to Marquette.  We took the shorter of two options, going through Canada.  As long as we had puppy papers, rabies tags, etc. and our own passports (enhanced license), we were set.  Custom’s officers didn’t even check the dogs.  We arrived at Days [...]

Myrtle Beach Marathon 2016

Honestly, I had no idea how this run was going to pan out. Up to 2 weeks prior, I wasn't totally committed. Training was half hearted with speed work and long runs done on the treadmill while holding on. To complete training miles, I'd walk/jog with Luke resulting in 11 minute miles to finish runs.  My easy miles were in the 10:30 pace zone. *Luke is only 7 months old and too young to be running with me yet. I hadn’t seen my dad since Christmas so I bought a ticket and decided since I was going to be in [...]

Space Coast Marathon

November 29, 2015 The Space Coast Marathon, Cocoa Village, FL I didn’t want to run this marathon. In fact, after running Marine Corp Marathon, I was almost completely committed to not training for anymore races. I didn’t run a week after MCM until the Sunday and then ran 8 miles. The following week, I got in 51 miles with back to back mid range runs on the weekend of 10 and 12 miles.  The next week I decided if I was able to run 20 miles, I would do Space Coast since Ted said we would cancel the flights and [...]

Grandma’s Marathon 2015 Recap

Duluth, Minnesota has a lot going on during Grandma’s Marathon.  If the weather is good, it’s a nice place to spend a few days before and after the marathon.  Since I was on my own during this trip and didn’t have a rental car, my explorations took me only within 3 miles of the hotel, Radisson Harbor View.  A nice place to stay, logistically, for marathon goings on.  The expo at DECC is within 1 mile as is the finish line.  Buses to the start pick athletes up right from the hotel between 5:45 and 6:15.  More details on the [...]
