The Mustang Stampede 10K Run

Very valuable asset to have in reaching your goals is the support from family and friends.  With another 18 miles plus on the books before Portland and NYC marathons and throwing into those long miles fast middle miles for 6, help was needed. Trying to pick up the pace in a long run is tough when running alone.  With the help of The Mustang Stampede 10K, a running partner named Amy, I was able to successfully run 6.2 miles, AFTER running almost 9 miles at just slightly over half marathon pace… THEN, Ted was with me to finish that long [...]

Last 20 Miles Before The Series

Today I ran my last 20 mile long run before I begin my series of three marathons.  Rochester on Sept. 22nd.  I’m hoping my body is into it and will try to maintain a pace between the 3:40 and 3:45 pace. Chicago on Oct. 13th.  Running with Ted in his first marathon.  We expect to come in sometime under 5 hours but you know how the first marathon goes… we just want to finish. Syracuse Empire Marathon on Oct. 20th.  This one is up in the air.  If I’m not hurt and the body is willing, I’ll get to the [...]

Getting Up and Running Plus Quinoa Beet and Glazed Carrot Stick Salad

Do you have to psych yourself up for that long run? Any run over 16 miles that might take you anywhere from 2 1/2 to 3 1/2 hours? This is what my mind and body do to prepare for 2 plus hours on the road.  Getting up and out of bed is the hardest part. 1. Don’t sleep very well.  Wake up about 2 to 3 times during the night. 2. In the early morning, before sun up, I start tossing and turning and trying to talk myself into getting ready to go. 3. Give in and get up...it’s STILL [...]

CNYEats A Taste of Utica Hj’s Chocolate Chip Family Recipe

It was going to be a beautiful day for a run as long as you could wait until after about 10 am.  I’m impatient and want to get my workout over in the early AM so I couldn’t wait.  It was too cold to do my long run outside at 6 am with temperatures at 2 degrees.  I grabbed water, a couple of gels, put the fan on, turn the T.V. to Law & Order and ran for 14 1/4 miles on the treadmill.  Finished outside for 4 miles with Shane and Zoey then made good use of the snow [...]

CNYEats A Taste of Utica Italian Chocolate Cookies

Saturday I ran my longest long run before Air Force Marathon on September 15th.  It was 22 miles in perfect weather without any major aches or pains.  Shane and I ran a slow 6 miles to start the morning then I continued on, incorporating some hefty inclines in my run.  The steepest part of the hills turned into a run/walk effort. 22.02 miles with a moving pace of 9:58.  Slow but within my training pace range.  I had to stop on Sessions Road. It was such a wonderful down hill with a great view and that wonderful fresh, “cow natural” [...]

The First of Many – AGAIN

The first 17 mile run.  A lot more to follow up until race day on November 20th.  It was tough and there was one very steep hill, just under a 1/4 mile long.  It hit at the 13 mile point and my legs had just tackled a gradual incline the previous 1 1/2 miles.  Ted met me on his bike at the 11 1/2 mile point.  He was on his way to breakfast with the guys then would tackle a longer, hilly bike ride himself.  That mile he rode along beside me passed by so quickly.  It was nice. The [...]
