CNYEats A Taste of Utica Sesame Cookies

If you remember back to last summer, I posted Regina’s Sesame cookies from the book A Taste of Utica. Today, we have Mella’s Grandson’s recipe for Sesame Cookies, on page 162 of our book There is another recipe on page 163 posted by Carm Guarnieri which is very much the same. The only change I made to this cookie was to replace the vanilla extract with Cocoa Bean Extract from NuNaturals.  What a good move on my part. Loved these cookies! *The recipe below is 1/2 the recipe from the book which resulted in 2 doz. cookies 2 cups flour [...]

CNYEats A Taste of Utica Pieta Chiusa

This week the recipe from our book A Taste of Utica is on pages 160 and 161, two separate recipes. Ruth posted this first recipe.  I thought it was a bit difficult to follow. In fact, I’m not sure at all what the end result is suppose to look like or taste like.  I tried to do a search but nothing for “Pieta Chiusa” came up.  If you can offer any guidance on this one, it will be much appreciated. “Here is Mom Constabile’s recipe for “Pieta Chiusa”  by Ruth 6 eggs 6 tsp. baking powder 1/2 tsp. salt 1/2 [...]

CNYEats A Taste of Utica Taralli-Italian Biscuits

A crisp, barely sweet Italian treat.  The recipe was a little confusing but I believe my tweaks and assumptions produced a near to perfect Taralli. Makes approximately 3 dozen cookies (when the recipe is cut in half), 6 dozen or so for a full recipe. 10 eggs 1 cup canola oil 1 cup sugar 5 1/2 cups flour (the recipe said “sugar” but I think Ruth meant flour) *I used 1/2 whole wheat flour and 1/2 all purpose. 2 tsp. cremonna  = I looked EVERYWHERE [...]
