CNYEats A Taste of Utica Gelati Florentine Clone

This week’s recipe is…. ICE CREAM!  Ok, so “Gelati” (better known as Gelato) if you want to be all formal about it.  What’s the difference?  According to THIS SOURCE, ice cream is made with a minimum of 10 percent fat, while gelato is made with a greater proportion of whole milk to cream, so it contains five to seven percent fat. Gelato is also churned at a slower speed than ice cream, so it's denser because not as much air is whipped into the mixture. (Gelato contains about 25 to 30 percent air, while ice cream can contain as much [...]

CNYEats A Taste of Utica Lemon Ice

Talk about refreshing!  I thought it might be too early in the season for this recipe.  That wasn't the case. Cold weather or hot weather, this works. Sweet but fresh.  Your mouth explodes with the cool, clean flavor of frozen lemon ice. By the way, I’m struggling with my new photo software.  It’s taking me forever to figure out what it does with my photos not to mention any editing.  Patience…I’ll get there. The recipe is simple.  4 ingredients and enough lemon delight to share among 8 – 10 people. Posted by Toni (Leone) Guzski and found on page 160 of our book A Taste of Utica. [...]

CEimB Tuscan Roasted Vegetables

ROAD TRIP to get ice cream.  All three of us wanted ice cream so we hit the toad to Tasty Treat on Coventry Ave. in Utica. I noticed the ad in the newspaper the other day for Tasty Treats boasting that they serve Doggy Sundaes.  PERFECT! Shane was so excited! Even though too much of it isn’t good for him (he’s a bit “lactose intolerant”), he is allowed to indulge once in a while. Soft serve vanilla with a little whipped cream and two doggy bones.  It was the perfect size! In case you’re wondering, I couldn’t resist either and [...]

Chipmunk Freedom and FroYo

Monday’s workout:  A 3.8 mile treadmill run. Nothing fancy, just plodding away the miles while watching the news.  A light leg workout followed for 40 minutes with abs mixed in.  The morning was too perfect to pass up an easy, enjoyable run with Shane.  We logged just over 5 miles. Total miles today = 9.40 easy running miles. I managed to squeeze in a chest and arm workout last night so I have one more day of back and shoulders then it’s all running focused.  It surprises me that biking doesn't effect running.  Yesterday, after my "quality run", Ted and [...]
