A Girl Trip

Just the girls road trip to South Carolina.  Sue did all the driving because I’m a turd and hate driving. In my defense, I did not sleep ONCE while we were on the road.  Zoey on the other hand poked her head into the front seat every couple of hours when it was time to walk and stretch and do other things that dogs (and people) need to do. We’re enjoying a visit with Mum and Dad as well as the hot weather while the North East is suffering through a dreaded cold spell. Check out those morning temperatures! Zoey [...]

Hills are the Best and Lemon Blueberry Protein Pancakes

In the past when training for a key race, I’ve never included hill repeats because this area of New York state is hilly enough and I didn’t want to risk injury. But I requested a training plan from a very well known trainer for Boston this year and, well, given his good name, who am I to dispute?!   Today’s workout included hill repeats and was to go something like this: 15 – 25 minute warm up with 8 to 10 x 60 to 90 second hill repeats (approximate 6% to 9% incline), jogging back down for recovery and followed by [...]

Utica Road Runners and Almond and Oat Pancakes

Saturday night was the Utica Road Runners awards banquet.  What a great group of folks. So friendly and welcoming.  Although I have been a member for at least 3 or 4 years now, I’ve never attended the awards banquet.  You know how you’re never quite sure WHEN to define yourself as a “runner”?   This year I felt I could justifiably call myself a runner since I ran my first marathon.  In doing so, I also ramped up enough miles to get an official Road Runner 1000 miler jacket! Along with the jacket, there were some other super prizes: The Sports [...]

CEimB Vanilla Spice Oatmeal

We are all so particular about our oatmeal, this recipe was definitely met with apprehension. Since I very often get stuck in my strict diet regimen (I know, I know …but it isn’t ME who eats all those baked goods!),  I tried to open myself up to this recipe and only do the smallest of tweaking.  All in the name of open minded eating.  This week’s CEimB pick is by Mary of Popsicles and Sandy Feet . A good pick and the perfect opportunity for Ted and I to enjoy oatmeal in a different way.  Did I say enjoy?! Makes [...]

CEimB: Blueberry Orange French Toast Bake

Since my day began with a 6 1/2 mile treadmill run followed by a very wet walk with Shane for 2 1/2 miles, I felt fully justified in indulging in this delicious recipe.  Good carbs to fuel my race on Sunday. The recipe title for this week’s CEimB is actually “Blueberry-Almond French Toast Bake” but you know I can’t leave well enough alone so I changed it. First things first:  Heide of Chez Zero, thank you for a wonderful recipe choice. Really, really good. This is the Apple Crumbles version of Ellie’s recipe.  The oranges?  Since I had to zest [...]

I’ve Got a Spurtle

Yesterday afternoon, one of my favorite guys in the whole world showed up at work and said … (I LOVE these words)…”One for you”.    It was the UPS man!  AHHHHH!   I got a package! I knew immediately who it was from.  My friends at Bob's Red Mill.  They sent me some Gluten Free Steel Cut Oats, my absolute weekday breakfast favorite. That wasn’t all. In the box was a Spurtle.   I had never heard of such a thing! A Spurtle is a traditional Scottish porridge stirring stick used to stir the oats as they softened in the pot. Since I [...]
