Just Move and Egg Rolls: Fitness and Food

I just read an article in the local paper "Keep on Moving: Exercise, even in small doses, offers tremendous benefits for senior citizens". Exercise in small doses offers tremendous benefits for EVERYONE, young, middle age, and seniors. The CDC (Center for Disease Control and Prevention) offers weekly recommended physical activity requirements for optimal health on their site at CDC.gov. Some of the key points in the article referred to above and written by Judith Graham of Kaiser Health News were as follows: 1. Starting physical activity on a regular basis will make a person more likely to regain strength and [...]

Another Day in the Sunny South

We are loving this sunshine and warm weather. Sue and I start our day with our individual exercise routine, be it walk or run.  Zoey likes the exercise as well.  Friday morning was a shorter run for Zoey and I since the long run of the week was on tap for Saturday.  We did a quick 37 minutes or 4 mile run around Heritage before cooking up an awesome EggBeater omelet preceded by a large bowl of mixed fruit and berries. Feeling fit! Saturday’s long run was relaxed. I went out with Z for 6 1/2 then left the plantation [...]

Sharing Runners’ Footprints

Being a runner means you are now “free” to win and lose and live life to its fullest.  - Bill Rodgers, 4 time winner of Boston and NYC Marathons. The following are taken from the 2014 Boston Marathon Racers’ Record Book, a runner’s race day experience. For me, it never gets old.  I love the Boston Marathon and all that comes with it.  I hope as long as I continue to qualify, I can continue to experience all that the road from Hopkinton to Boston has to offer. Never too old:  “A year ago, running 5 minutes seemed impossible; on [...]

Banana Cream Cheese Bread with Chia and Peanut Butter Center

It’s the week of the Boilermaker 15K road race.  This past weekend the race route was very popular among local participants.  I was out there on Saturday to start a 16 mile run.  Ran with Zoey from our house (about the 2 mile point) to the starting line, home again to drop off Zoey then proceeded up to Utica College and back.  It was a gorgeous day for running. As for the rest of my Boilermaker training, it’s been the most intensive in all the years I’ve been a registered runner for this 15K race.  My workouts have been directed [...]

Tupper Lake Toughman Half Ironman 2014

Ted has done quite a few sprint triathlons.  He has done a couple of Olympic distance.  He has never done a half triathlon aka half ironman aka Tupper Lake Tinman/Toughman until Saturday, June 28th.  He did it!  He finished and it wasn’t easy.  We arrived in Tupper Lake on Friday and drove straight to the Wilderness Museum for packet pick up. It was organized and not crowded.  Very straight forward. We found our motel, one mile down the road, The Tupper Lake Motel.  It was nothing fancy but very clean and in such a convenient location.  The run for the [...]

Greenlakes Syracuse and Zucchini with Butternut Squash

The weather in New York was perfect this weekend so we spent a lot of time outside. Saturday:  Ted had a practice swim with the CNY Tri Club.  What a great group!  Wish I could get into swimming and biking but it’s not my thing. Thank goodness it IS Ted’s thing so we can enjoy these group gatherings with wonderful people. Ted had a good swim. The water was cool but nice once he got moving. He did 2 laps: 2 x 800 yards. Before the group set out on their practice swim, I ran around the first lake to [...]
