Strawberries and Fillo Dough

Gym-mania today:  50 minute treadmill run + 45 minutes of weights working chest and arms.  Shane and I went running around the golf course for 4.5 miles.  Total running miles today= 10.01 at an average pace of approximately 9.3.   I really love this time of year.  It was 50 degrees so shorts and a light running jacket was perfect for an early morning run.  At 5:30, it was just beginning to get light out which meant we had so many more running route options.  That’s why we were able to go up into the golf course.  Any earlier in the [...]

An Ayurvedic Recipe

Daily Exercise:   Today was a 12 miler.  I’ve started thinking about those 90 minute runs or the 10  to 12 milers this way: “Oh good. It’s a short run this week.”  Amazing!  I used to think 8 miles was my long run.  It’s a good feeling. When I first started the distance training, I thought I would do it through May. But now, I’m really enjoying the challenge of pushing myself to limits I’ve never approached before.  Today however was not a good run. Shane had an upset tummy last night, and this morning, AND for the miles I ran [...]

One important link

It was a quiet Friday at work. Sue was off celebrating her birthday and the phones weren’t ringing.  It was, however a busy day for paperwork.  Who enjoys paperwork?  I have to take numerous breaks to get through the monotony of it.  It has to be done, simply overhead but a must. Ho Hum. The one important link:  Sustainable Food – Sustainable Agriculture.  Buy local.  Here is the link on Examiner. A movie review:   “Up In The Air” with George Clooney.  I just love that guy!  He is so real. So NOT Hollywood.  A very enjoyable movie. The scenes were [...]

Happy Pistachio Day

Exercise recap:   I ran my personal distance best = 13.45 miles.  The treadmill portion had to be long today because we were hit with so much snow.  I knew the Utica streets wouldn’t be clear so I went for as long as I possibly could. That was 11 miles at 9:40 pace.  At that point, Shane and I went outside to finish the last two miles.  It was deep and where the snow wasn’t deep it was slick.  I had 2 falls and tried to stay in the tracks of any car which had made its own path through the snow.  That [...]

Molasses Cookie Waffles

In my earlier post which documented my workout plans for the week, I listed a 12 mile run and the Duathlon for Saturday.  Ted and I would have been standing at the starting point all alone if we tried to enter the event next Saturday.  It’s on Sunday and that’s so much better because I was beginning to wonder how I would run 12 miles, ski 4 miles, then run another 3.1.  It would have been an interesting attempt at increasing my stamina.  Today's workout was good.  45 min. Elliptical + 30 min. legs w/o with weights + 50 min. [...]
