Greenlakes Syracuse and Zucchini with Butternut Squash

The weather in New York was perfect this weekend so we spent a lot of time outside. Saturday:  Ted had a practice swim with the CNY Tri Club.  What a great group!  Wish I could get into swimming and biking but it’s not my thing. Thank goodness it IS Ted’s thing so we can enjoy these group gatherings with wonderful people. Ted had a good swim. The water was cool but nice once he got moving. He did 2 laps: 2 x 800 yards. Before the group set out on their practice swim, I ran around the first lake to [...]

I Felt A (Capital “A”!) AMAZING!

Why do we have those truly wonderful totally energized days?  I had the best, I DO mean the best workout Sunday morning.  A 12 mile run at 8:54 pace and a 19.7 mile bike ride, average pace 13 mph.  After all that exercise, I didn’t feel as if I had done a thing!  What happened?! Why was my endurance level so good today?  I want that EVERY DAY! It might have been the massage yesterday. I was worried about that a day before a mid range run. My legs could have felt heavy. But no, the legs felt GREAT. It [...]

No Fireworks, Just Smooth Sailing

Getting started on our July 4th celebration there were no fireworks but smooth sailing or rather running and riding.  It was already 70 degrees when we got up late on this holiday.  We stayed up until 11:30 pm (quite the accomplishment for Ted and I) watching the DVD “Safe House” with Denzel Washington and Ryan Reynolds Does Denzel ever make a bad movie? I haven’t seen one if he has. When we finally got our lazy behinds out of bed, Shane and I went for a 5 mile run. We made a couple of water stops because Shane and his [...]

Owasco Man Triathlon 2012

It just amazes me how wide awake we are on the weekends, before the sun comes up, before our alarms go off.  If there is a race event, Ted and I are ready to go, no matter what the time. Saturday morning we were leaving the house before the sun came up, heading toward Emerson Park for the Owasco Man Sprint Triathlon.  Last year, we left late and had to really scramble to get Ted set up and over to the swim start which is quite a hike from transition.  This year, we had 45 minutes to spare.  The extra [...]

First it was the foot and The Secret Garden

Didn’t do a lot of running this week.  Last Sunday during a short 3 mile run/walk with Ted and Shane, my left foot started hurting. It was a nagging ache all day.  Monday through Wednesday, I continued with short runs tolerating that aching foot.  Thursday was a different story.  My entire lower half hurt from a tough leg session with the personal trainer and there was a pain in my ankle. Just walking with Shane resulted in aggravating the ankle.  The foot pain was gone, trading one pain for another. Friday, Ted took Shane for his morning walk but later [...]

Nutty Chicken with Danish Blue

Making up workouts, as pointed out yesterday, is not recommended. However, some of us are obsessive and can’t sit still until the weekly plan is complete which is why I was up at the crack running down the street again this morning.  Not a problem getting up but when I started to run, the legs revolted. It was dark and weird monkey noises were coming from the zoo. That was enough to put the heebie jeebies in me. Then there was a dog that snuck up from behind the bushes and gave a big fat BARK! That knocked my legs [...]
