Wow! Papaya

What can be said? Fresh, fruity, juicy, bursting with flavor... this is one super fruit.  Have you tried fresh papaya?  What kind of recipes have you made with it?  The papaya really made the rest of this mornings eats play second string... a bowl of Cream of Rye mixed with a little 10 Grain cereal, 1/4 of a banana, cinnamon and Papaya on the side. A chocolate VPX shake with 1/4 of a banana. But....WOW! the papaya. To get moving this morning, it was 20 minutes between the Elliptical and the Treadmill. 30 minutes of shoulders and abs. A 4.15 mile [...]

An Orange Shake

The alarm rang at 3:55 am. A tired arm extended from under the warm sheets and turned it off. Fifteen minutes later, a leg dangled from the bed and slowly extended it's foot to the floor. The other leg followed as did a torso, slowly forming an arc as the head was the last to obtain a vertical position. This tired body made it's way to the bathroom then decided the cold floor was just too much and made its way back through the dark bedroom and under the warm covers.  In and out of a light sleep for an [...]

Just a tease of good weather

Yesterday was beautiful.  This morning wasn't bad. Later today and tomorrow...April Showers and then some. The real disappointment in the upcoming rain, gusty winds, and cold front due in on Saturday is that there is a 10K race in Rome called "Fort to Fort".  It is my first 10K race.  I'm just wondering if it's that important to me to get out there in the miserable cold, rain, and wind.  Full report tomorrow.  As for today, Shane and I enjoyed a nice slow 4.75 mile run down the Parkway.  It was a little windy but the temperatures were mild, 51 [...]

Nothing Fancy

This mornings healthy start was nothing fancy.  It was a Cappuccino Spiru-Tein shake. A bowl of Cream of Rye with 1 TBS Buckwheat Groats.  The cereal was cooked with 2 Sugar Cookie Sleigh Ride tea bags. Half of a very juicy orange on the side. The packet of Spiru-Tein said "High Protein Energy Meal".  It dawned on me that I never checked the carbohydrates of these Spiru-Teins, only the protein.  There are 11 grams of carbs in this shake.  That's quite a lot considering the shake is coupled with a bowl of hot cereal AND fruit.  However, if one is [...]

Where's the Thaw

We should be having a day or so of "winter thaw", but the opposite is the only forecast ahead.  More cold temps and snow moving in. Oh Yay :( This morning, I was achy. It shouldn't have been due to the 1/2 hour of yoga last night. You see I grabbed one of the CD's from Kripalu and went downstairs to the yoga room. I was doing yoga quite regularly a year ago, then Shane came along and I sort of gave it up. I do daily stretches however no vinyasas. Last night was a fairly easy power routine.  Where was I [...]

Staying warm in the single digits

Good Friday Morning.  I relied on Ted and his alarm this morning to wake us both up since I wasn't going to get into any weight lifting this morning. He hit the snooze button 2 times  and so we were a bit late on the "git up".  I managed 35 aerobic minutes:  25 on the T/M doing incline work at about 5.5 mph.  10 minutes of rowing.   Got good and warmed up for my 9 degree walk with Shane and because I started out nice and warm, it really wasn't unbearable walking in that weather.  There was no wind either [...]
