Dukes Tacoma Washington Special Recipes

Still in recovery mode.  The alarm is set the previous evening.  In the morning, when it sounds it’s ugly alert, the ears tune in to any rain or wind that might be going on outside.  If either one is heard, the body turns over, the eyes close and it’s another hour in bed.   So nice! There are a few motivators to put the body in motion:  1. The dogs.  They protest sleeping in and their protests are difficult to ignore. 2. Ted is hard core training for his upcoming triathlons. He gets out of bed by 4:30 am.  This can [...]

A Full House and Crab Cakes

We have a full house this weekend. So much fun!  Pam, Heman, Margaret (Heman’s mother) my parents, Debbie and Eddie (Ted’s sister and husband)   We all had a wonderful dinner at Perugia’s. No food photo’s.  I didn’t want to stop everyone from diving into their delicious meals so I could do photo shoots. Nothing more annoying than that when you’re starving.  Then I learned that Margaret loves to take photos of food. Who knew?!  There was strange visitor at work yesterday afternoon. I put the camera on Anti-Blur Motion for this shot: What was I thinking? It’s a SNAIL [...]

The Thursday before Christmas. Christmas Eve. Well, we aren't having these crab cakes tonight. We had them last week and last Saturday.  The recipe was chosen by Lauryn of Bella Baker Blogspot.   There are some great things cookin' over at Lauryn's so make sure to visit her site.  In the meantime, this was our experience with crab cakes and the smarter tartar. Don't you just love saying that?!   Saturday Edition: Pictured above, was the REAL crab.  I made small (about 2 1/2 " round) cakes for our party.  Wednesdays Edition:  Tuna Cakes with smarter Tartar.  We made 6 [...]

Crab with Lime Buttons

Apart from the neighbors dogs barking, non-stop, from 6:30 pm to 9:30 pm, it was a peaceful evening.  I remember the dog trainer saying the dog will get tired of barking and eventually stop.  Did she really mean 4 or 5 hours later?! One of us was up early this morning to complete a pretty good leg workout after a 30 minute treadmill run.  Shane and I went for a 3.8 mile walk.  We did do one sprint when we encountered a skunk slowly crossing the road.  Cars were approaching from both directions and I did NOT want to be present [...]

Re-Eating Vacation: Crabby Dinner

Tonight's dinner is focused on crab.  We so enjoyed our meals in North East, MD, that we decided to do a Chesapeake Bay Crab Soup and a Chesapeake Bay Crab Cake dinner. Herbal Remedies

In the January issue of "Organic & Natural", a free publication from Hannaford Markets, there was a chart indicating a variety of herbs and their uses in healing.  I thought it was interesting but couldn't find an online reference. So here is my best attempt at copying the information.  I have only included the more familiar herbs. Herb                      Use                                                                                                                                        Chamomile           Soothes digestive problems. Calming effects. Relieves aches and pains of cold/flu.  Avoid if you are allergic to ragweed. Dandelion              Gentle laxative. Detoxifying.  Used to make wine and also, use the roots for a caffeine free coffee substitute. Echinacea               Boosts immune [...]
