CNYEats Lenore’s Brown Sugar Pound Cake

It’s been so long since I opened the CNYEats Taste of Utica book.  But this past weekend, I had too many over ripe bananas and was curious to see what I could do with them.  Of course a nice smoothie would have been good but I was feeling “cakey” and after running 22 miles and Ted doing so well in his triathlon, we deserved a treat.  In the recipe below, I replaced 2 sticks of butter with 2 over ripe bananas.  The pound cake was delicious!   It was on the dry side but if you follow the original recipe below, [...]

Give Thanks and Cranberry Big Carrot Cake

It’s such a busy time of year. We begin the hustle and bustle with Thanksgiving and won’t stop for another month.  When things get a little crazy, it might help to just   STOP. Take a deep breath.  Sit down.  Think of all the things in life for which you are thankful. Here are my top ten: Family.  We are so supportive of each other, it’s a great feeling knowing you are never alone. Husband.  He puts up with so much and has such a gentle, forgiving way.  I couldn’t be more blessed. Dogs.  I have the prettiest, best behaved German [...]

Which Way and CNYEats A Taste of Utica Banana Cake

I have to know which direction I’m going to begin my run in the morning. What happens in those middle miles, I never know until I get to intersections or off road pathways. I’ve got to at least have thought out “left, right, or straight ahead” before leaving the house. This morning when I set out, without Shane, I had no idea where I was going. I didn’t have to run a short loop to bring Shane home.  I had water with me so, although the golf course with water fountains was an options, it wasn’t mandatory. I was so [...]

CNYEats A Taste of Utica NY Style Cheesecake

What a beautiful Saturday.  It was perfect for an early morning run.  16 miles and negative splits for the last 8 miles.  I’ll take it. The route was, once again, the Boilermaker route, leaving our house with Shane and running to the starting line. We ran back to the house because Shane can’t run 16 miles in summer heat, then I set out alone for another 12.  In the golf course, a lady was being dropped off at the top of the hill. Coming out of the golf course, Ted met me on his bike and stayed with me for [...]

An Open Water Swim and Banana and Fresh Blueberry Yogurt Cake

What gloomy day for a swim, but Ted did it:  his FIRST 1 mile Open Water Swim. The warm up: The excitement: The finish: Such Sweet Success! One mile in open water. He had his doubts.  I didn’t.  While Ted was swimming the cool waters of Oneida Shores, Shane, Zoey and I were exploring the rest of the park: We weren’t done yet!  After the swim, the four of us drove over to Dave’s camp and put the docks into the water. It was busy day.  We were up at 5 am and got home at 2 pm.  It was [...]
