Eating Equals Energy and Oatmeal Cookies for Breakfast

When I first decided to run longer distances, 10 miles or more back in 2009, the thought of eating something before these early morning runs never occurred to me. After all, I had been going to the gym for years and running 5 miles a couple of hours before having any kind of food. I remember my first attempt at 12 miles on a stomach full of NOTHING.  An epic failure.  I was very careful working myself up to running that distance without getting injured although paid no attention to an equally important aspect of endurance which is nutrition.  Now, [...]

Breakfast Cereal Cake

Despite all the gripes about this long, cold winter, I’m managing to get outside for most of my runs.  It’s uncertain how beneficial to increasing speed these training sessions are because my pace is slow.  Sometimes the slow running is due to the extreme cold, sometimes it’s due to unplowed roads, ice, pot holes, or just plain tired legs.  Although speed may be lacking or at least staying constant, my fuel burning efficiency has increased.  No longer do I need to take in 200 calories to get me through the 12 mile speed sessions or other hard workouts. I don’t [...]

Stormy Stops and Fall Flavor Muffins

Everyone is in a panic due to the storm.  Some refer to the wicked weather system as “Frankenstorm”.  How appropriate considering it’s hitting the Northeast during Halloween.  We don’t anticipate too much damage around our home but who knows? There could be a tree that up roots or a creek that over flows.  If we have to vacate, I only hope where we end up welcomes dogs.   My biggest issue with this storm at the moment is that it’s going to put the nix on my outdoor running.  If we lose power, the treadmill will be a no-go as [...]

Crossing Bridges and Bioenergy RIBOSE

Last night there was something said about a “blue moon”.  It didn’t look blue but it was full and bright.  Last night, the sky was absolutely brilliant.  Ted and I stood with binoculars gazing up at the glistening orb while discussing the New York sky.  It was Friday night. We had indulged in one glass of wine, a margarita and excellent Italian cuisine at Chesterfields.  Simple discussions were to be expected. What should have been an early night turned into a late one for us because we were completely absorbed in the DVD “Hunger Games”.  Have you seen it? Read [...]

FOFF Calabrese Sunshine Eggs in Sauce

There was WAYYYY too much sunshine on these eggs! They were very good but my sauce wasn’t saucy enough. I used stewed tomatoes instead of crushed and didn’t get enough “splash” to cook the tops of the eggs. I had to flip them.  That spoiled the look of the dish. It wasn’t just the egg flip that spoiled the cosmetic appearance but my camera settings were all goofed up and, being the totally inexperienced photographer that I am, I didn’t check the photos after each shot.  The result is extremely SUNNY photos. As for the dish itself?  It’s a very [...]

CRASH

Computer's mother board died yesterday. We took her to the GEEK Squad hospital but they said she was too old to save. I hope no one ever says that about me. Taste of Utica will be posted ASAP. In the meantime, the Wordpress app on my phone will suffice. Gorgeous day for a bike ride! Ted and I rode to Creekside for some good morning eats. It was a fluffy, tasty egg white veggie giambrotte for me, then back on the bike for a sunny, warm ride home. Did you have a picture perfect Sunday?
