Boston Marathon

Boston Marathon 2013: Sunday

Our first night in Boston was fun and exciting.  We had dinner at Magianno’s Little Italy with the group from McMillan Running. They all (Ben, Ian, Greg) remembered us from running camp last May and will be hitting the streets on Monday.  They gave us a nice swag bag with long sleeve shirts, pants, Greg’s new book “You (Only Faster)” compression socks, running fuel from Gatorade. The bag is a high end knap sack. Really nice stuff.   Greg gave us four tips for having a good run in Boston 1. Stick with your original plan. 2. Focus on your best [...]

Have to Try and Banana Flats

From a Newswire interview with Kara Goucher I think back to the two Boston Marathons I’ve run, I feel like I’ve learned a lot from that course.  I don’t fear failing at Boston, but I do fear regretting not trying. There are so many things I want to remember when I’m running from Hopkinton to Boston on Monday, April 15th.  All the positive affirmations that keep the feet moving forward when everything else is wanting to stop.  I’m pretty good at staying focused since my running partner is a dog and he doesn’t say much and most of the time [...]

Runners Passport and Meatless Roast Sweet Potato Salsa

The BAA is doing things different this year.  Runners of the 2013 Boston Marathon were sent a Passbook or Passport for bib pick up, expo and race weekend information. That passport is gold since it gets us a hassle free experience when picking up our race day goodies such as bib number, shirt, drop off bag, etc.  My personal preference was the larger postcard pass since it was less likely to get lost in all my paperwork.  Along with the passport, we get: A welcome book for getting around. A hydration pamphlet so you can brush up on your hydrating [...]

Boston 2012: The Hot One

An hour outside of Utica, on the road to Boston, MA, the heat warning messages began arriving from the BAA.org. It was only Saturday, there was still hope for cooler temperatures. By Sunday, the BAA was offering deferrals for next year. Would I defer? No way.  This was another challenge waiting to be conquered.  I knew I could go 26.2 miles, I just didn’t know how fast slow or how my body would deal with the heat.  I’ve never run more than 1 hour in temperatures over 78 degrees. Heck! I run before the sun comes up in the morning [...]

It’s not a race, it’s an experience

Something to Think About

When the going gets tough and I need to redirect my thoughts, as I’m sure will be necessary on Monday from Hopkinton to Boston, I like to focus on future activities.  This is what’s in store for Ted and I after April 16th. May 6th is the Five Boro Bike Tour.  Ted and I won the lottery for America’s largest cycling event.  It’s a 40 mile, traffic free ride for 32,000 cyclists.  We start at Battery Park in New York City, go through Manhattan, Central Park, the Bronx, down the Queensboro Bridge and pass so many NYC icons on the [...]
