Bob’s Red Mill Steel Cut Oats

I’ve Got a Spurtle

Yesterday afternoon, one of my favorite guys in the whole world showed up at work and said … (I LOVE these words)…”One for you”.    It was the UPS man!  AHHHHH!   I got a package! I knew immediately who it was from.  My friends at Bob's Red Mill.  They sent me some Gluten Free Steel Cut Oats, my absolute weekday breakfast favorite. That wasn’t all. In the box was a Spurtle.   I had never heard of such a thing! A Spurtle is a traditional Scottish porridge stirring stick used to stir the oats as they softened in the pot. Since I [...]

Healthy Smiles

If you eat oatmeal, do you have a favorite brand: Quaker? Kashi? Bob’s Red Mill?  or kind:  steel cut? rolled? quick cooking? Here’s my favorite: During these Fall months, my favorite addition is Pumpkin.  Bob’s Red Mill Steel Cut Oatmeal with Pumpkin and…. Raisins, Almonds, and slices of orange on the side. Blueberries, raisins, and fresh strawberry slices. Pumpkin seeds, yogurt, blueberries, strawberries, and few cashews for crunch. What’s your favorite way to eat oatmeal?

The FitSmart Shake

A new shake mix was on the menu, "FitSmart Shake", Chocolate Creme. It is Gluten Free, Preservative Free, and No Artificial Ingredients.  The nutrition values, in summary, are:  Calories: 155, Total Fat: <1g, Total Carbs: 17 g (Fiber=10, Sugars=2), Protein:20g.  The taste is very much like the Jay Robb Chocolate Protein that I typically use. The unfortunate characteristic about these shakes is that they don't stay mixed for long.  Enjoy it QUICKLY. Today was Back and Tricep day: Warm up with 30 minutes on the elliptical trainer.  4 sets x 12 reps: Bent over rows. One hand tricep press. Pull [...]

A Hump Day Workout

Wednesday's work out was back and triceps.  Getting up wasn't a chore since I was able to relax earlier than usual last night. I hit the massage chair at 7:45 pm and that really eliminated a lot of tension.  I went for a walk with Ted and Shane at 9pm. By 9:20pm, I was already under the covers. Zzzzzz. Back to today's exercise:   4 sets of each exercise.  I'll refer to each "set" as the back exercise immediately followed by the tricep exercise.  The first "set" was done for 20 reps. The second "set", 18 reps. Third "set", 15 reps. and finally, [...]

A Beautiful Morning Sky

What a gorgeous sky this morning.  Unfortunately no picture.  The color was a morning blue with wisps of clouds here and there. There was a long line of clouds over the horizon where the shades of pink were feathered into the white. What is that saying?  "Red sky at night, Sailors delight. Red sky in the morning, Sailors take warning".  Is that really true? Shane and I went for a 3.42 mile run.  Skipped the workout again thinking I may take advantage of the nice weather and go for a run after work followed by a lower body workout.  I'm not sure that [...]

No travels today

Yesterday the mechanics worked with lightening speed on my jeep to complete the oil and systems check in under 25 minutes. Amazing!  Someone must have ignited something under their derrieres. Up there in Richfield Springs, where the dealership is, they still have snow covering the fields.  Here are some photos of farm country:       A Routine... The day began with the usual routine:  Treadmill for 32 minutes. Chest and biceps for 40 minutes. Shane and I walked for 40 minutes. Today's eats and treats... A warm bowl of Bob's Red Mill Steel Cut Oats cooked with 2 Vanilla Maple Tea [...]
