Birthday cakes

Every day is different and Oreo Cookie Cake

Funny thing about running so much: just when you think you know how your legs are going to react, they throw you for a loop. Since Ted has another even this Sunday, I planned my long run on Friday.  Instead of running 75 minutes Thursday, 80 minutes Friday, and a long run on Saturday, I decided to change it up a bit.  I ran 90 minutes Thursday, 20 miles Friday, and 80 minutes Saturday.  I really thought after a 20 miler, Saturday’s run would be slow and troublesome due to tired legs.  Here’s the loop:  my legs felt more energetic [...]

Metatarsals, Cakes and Movies

It was so nice getting an extra wink of sleep especially now that it stays dark a little longer.   Shane doesn’t like us to get too much sleep and began the morning “whine alarm” at 5:45.  There is no way anyone can stay in bed with all that noise.  I get up and get the little “whiner” out of the room otherwise Ted would have to get out of bed as well. We went for a 5.25 mile run.  Great morning to be out there. I had enough in me to run double time but since I need some running [...]

A Cake For Jaine

Happy Birthday, Jaine. Jaine is 5 years old today. She wanted a heart shaped cake with rainbows. The cake is vanilla with lots of chocolate filling and butter cream frosting.  Best wishes for a very happy 5th birthday and hope you enjoy your cake!

A Black and White Cake

A cake for Doreen. Happy Birthday!   This cake is chocolate on the bottom and vanilla on top.  It is filled with a vanilla custard and strawberries.  The frosting is buttercream.  Doreen's friends asked that her cake be decorated in red, white and blue.   I just love baking cakes and decorating them. On a rare occasion, usually when I think the cake is an easy one and the decorations not a challenge, I get a surprise.  This cake had one challenge after another in store for me.    :P I didn't take a picture but there was a point when Shane had frosting on his [...]

Gabriel's Trattoria and More Cake

Two more cakes to celebrate THREE more birthdays.  The first cake is complete and is a 6" round, chocolate cake with chocolate mousse filling.  Yellow and pink roses were the decorations of choice.  Happy Birthday, Linda and Cindy!   The second cake will be posted later today (hopefully).   The Morning Run... I didn't know what I felt like this morning when I got up. We ran 4 1/2 yesterday so a shorter run wouldn't hurt.  It was 55 degrees. Shane will need water along the way so I grabbed the bottle, the baggy, the belt and clipped it around [...]
