Apple Pie

Wild Apple Crumble Pie

Coming back from one of our many daily walks (or runs) with the dogs, we notice how many apples were on the apple trees in our yard.  We don’t do anything to promote the growth of these apples but we live in upstate New York where you don’t have to do much to grow a beautiful apple tree. We have the larger crab apples.  The fruit is crisp but only slightly sweet. We also have smaller, thorny crab apples. The fruit is small, more red, yellow flesh, a bit drier but very sweet.  Ted and I gathered a box full [...]

FINALLY! and Apple Crumble Pie Revisited

FINALLY! Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2.  We watched it yesterday and Ted actually kept his eyes open, didn’t read a book, and watched most of it with me.  Another good Harry Potter movie and the last one.  So sad.  I haven’t got myself absorbed into a series since Harry Potter came out years ago. Are you reading any series right now? Any you would recommend? Apple Crumble Pie This is my self declared famous pie. You can find it on my recipe page. I only made one change in the following recipe which was to increase the [...]

Bring It and My Little Apple Galette

“BRING IT” that’s the term used all over the "P90X” program. I still don’t get it.  Personally, I like “PUMP IT” or “WORK IT” or something I can understand.  “BRING IT” doesn’t “DO IT”.  The annoying phrase  and the music (which THANKFULLY I can turn off) are my only gripes with the program. I’m really enjoying the workout. It feels good on my muscles because it’s making them work differently than what they’ve been used to for the past 12 months.  The weight isn’t as heavy because I choose to do higher reps and less weight as I get accustomed [...]

The First Brick and Apple Almond Crumb Pie

Saturday, Ted and I had a super workout.  My day started with a 5.6 mile walk with Shane. Then Ted and I took advantage of the gorgeous weather and enjoyed a 13.6 mile bike ride. When we came home, we quickly changed into swim suits and went to the Community College for a 40 minute swim, incorporating laps into the practice. I can actually DO laps now! I love the upper body workout you get from swimming.  It’s a good muscle soreness. Another confirmation for entry into the Boston Marathon arrived Saturday.  The card has a section on it that [...]

An Apple Pie with Plum-Apricots

We enjoyed the heat of day yesterday.  We drove to my sisters house on the lake with Shane.   No one was home but we just wanted to enjoy the lake and the weather.  Approaching her house, we heard quite the to-do.  Music, cheering...there was a water skiing event being held on the lake.  There was a pirate ship and a lot of boaters watching the contestants jump a ski jump positioned in the water.  We brought wine, water, towels, boat shoes...but when I put my foot in my right boat shoe, what a surprise!  A mouse had made a nest [...]
