Time for Stew

It's already September and, if you live in the North East, you are preparing to brace for cooler temperatures. Let's begin thinking about warming dishes like stew.  *Warning! Not vegetarian.  If you’re a vegetarian, proceed to the end and help me find a great substitute to make this stew right for me. This recipe is a slow cook recipe but not in the crock pot, it's cooked in a bean pot. The local paper featured this recipe from Celebrating Home  and I just knew it was one for Ted, modified of course! Serves 4 1 lb. round steak, in 1 [...]

I lied but came clean and Spinach Lentil Soup with Assorted Crackers

I lied. Last night, I DID get 8 hours of sleep and then some. Remaining true to myself, I came clean about running and ran because I wanted to be out there, not trying to break some personal record. The other day, in my list of twelve don'ts, I said I don't sleep 8 hours. Monday night my body and mind were exhausted. While Ted was downstairs working up a sweat on the trainer, I set myself onto the couch and fell asleep at 7:15 pm. I heard someone mutter "Joanne? Joanne...you're asleep." I grunted, got up and walked upstairs [...]

Pumpkin and Honey crisp Apple Soup with Gorgonzola and Toasted Walnuts

Oh Happy Day!  I bet that’s what all the folks who just completed the Marine Corp Marathon are thinking today.  It seems we had quite a few runners from our area.  So, to all you locals – GOOD JOB! As for me today, it was an easy recovery.  I started with 2 miles on the treadmill to warm my legs up for a weight workout. Ted wanted to run with me so I got a good arm pump as well while I waited for him to get ready to run. The three of us went outside into the cold, dark [...]

Endless Chores and White Soup with Roasted Grapes and Olive oil

The vacation is over, Monday is here. Ho Hum.  But we did get a lot accomplished over the weekend. The lawn was mowed but doesn’t look like it since the rain seems to give it a “turbo-grow” boost. The cars were washed but won’t look like it when we drive them since the roads are wet and dirty. Vacuuming done and floors washed although won’t stay clean since Shane will track loose grass and dirt in from the outside. Vacation clothes were washed and dried with another basket to be washed from the weekend (it’s ENDLESS!) A partial cleaning of [...]
