The first swim – bike – run event of the year for Ted and he had such an enjoyable day,
It started off a bit cool for a swim, 50 degrees with water at 57 degrees.
Above: The fog lifting over the lake as athletes set up in transition.
Getting the body acclimated to the cold water with a pre-race swim.
Even though the water was cold, there were many happy faces. These folk wanted to swim no matter what. They wanted a complete sprint triathlon with a 700 meter swim (shorted 100 meters due to water temp), 12 mile bike, and a 3.1 mile run.
There was a little confusion on the bike ride at an intersection on the return. A cop was directing traffic but no one was directing cyclists. Ted took a wrong turn and a few others followed. About a block down the road, Ted realized the mistake and said “We have to turn around. This isn’t right.”
Ted’s coming down the road to finish the event. I said “WAIT! I have to take a picture.” The result: He knocked about 9 minutes off his time from this event 2 years ago. *Last year, due to very cold water temperatures, this event was changed to a run – bike – run.
After an enjoyable breakfast at Lake Shore Inn restaurant with Sue and Sam, we drove home, only to get back on the bikes and go for a 32 mile ride.
The day was gorgeous and just MADE for being outside.
Happy Memorial Day weekend!
Woo Hoo Ted! Congrats on improving your time! The water temp sounds brutal but I bit everyone wants to jump right in once they finish the event, right? 🙂
I think everyone had gorgeous weather this weekend and thank goodness. With the awful Winter and Spring that never seemed to come, we’re all in need of a nice Summer right?
Wow great improvement on your time Dad!! I feel so proud of you and inspired 🙂
