A recipe from Chris’s sister, found on page 193 of our book A Taste of Utica.  This is a delicious cream cheese pastry roll filled with rich chocolate and nuts.  I don’t have to say “enjoy”.  I know you will.

The dough

  • 8 oz. cream cheese, room temperature
  • 2 sticks unsalted butter, room temperature
  • 2 cups flour

Cream together the cream cheese and butter. Add the flour to make a dough.  Chill while you make the filling.

The Filling

  • 2 TBS butter
  • 1 can condensed milk
  • 1 package chocolate chips
  • 2 cups chopped walnuts

Melt the butter in a pan, add the milk.  Heat until warm.  Add the chocolate chips and stir, allowing to melt.  Let cool and add the nuts.

Roll out the chilled dough and spread the filling over the dough but leaving space at the edge. Roll up like a jelly roll and close both ends with a fork like a pie.

Bake at 350 F for 30 minutes then allow to cool.

*Wrap up once cooled and put into the freezer just until it becomes slightly frozen. This will make it easier to slice.  Serve the slices at room temperature.

This recipe didn’t take long to make and, I can tell you with 100% certainty, it won’t take long to eat.
