It was one of those mornings. I had a 10 mile run on tap with 6 miles being key marathon pace miles. When the alarm went off, I listened for rain outside. Didn’t hear anything and got up.  I didn’t feel right, went back to bed, tossed and turned, got a headache. I can honestly boast it’s very rare I get a headache.  I knew 10 miles wasn’t going to happen today.

At 6:10, with my head hurting and stomach gurgling, I took Shane outside, ready to run if I could.  By this time, it was raining. Those 10 miles on schedule turned into 1 stinky little mile.   Just not the runner today.

Do you ever give in to your cravings?  I’ve been letting my healthy side slide a bit.  This is my secret stash at work.

When I just can’t resist, I try a sugar free Werther’s Original or a Baskin Robbins Sugar free Pralines ‘n Cream candy.  When things get really bad, I go for a caramel, a Tootsie Roll or a Bit o’ Honey.  The key to my weakness is that I maintain some semblance of control.  I won’t eat a candy (sugar free or not) until after lunch.  If I really have to have it, I limit myself to two candies.

When I’m not so weak and still crave something sweet, I’ll nibble on one of my all time favorite protein bars:

One bar typically lasts me a day and a half.

So you see, there are times when even those of us who proclaim to eat healthy have our moments.  But I’ve come clean. I’ve told you my secret.

What’s your secret?  Do you have a candy stash?

My mother has a candy AND cookie stash and I know where she keeps it. Angry smile
