I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, if anyone can make you think twice about your feelings , beliefs and ideals, it’s my Uncle Ralph in the U.K. He sent the following poem and it came on the most perfect morning. You see, yesterday morning, there was a confrontation at work and the police were involved. I leaped to the assumption it was a degenerate kid looking for trouble. One of our employees came into the office and apologized for the interaction (since her family was somewhat involved). She said “you know, he’s not really a bad kid, he just needs some attention. If he wasn’t so violent, you’d want to take him in your arms and give him a big hug.”
Those words amazed me but also made me think. A lot of our troubled youth might just need a big hug now and then because maybe, JUST MAYBE, that’s what is lacking in their lives. Here’s to Anna and my Uncle for seeing the better side in everyone.
A poem from my Uncle (not sure of it’s original author):
I was shocked, confused, bewildered as I entered Heaven’s door,
Not by the beauty of it all, nor the lights or its decor.
But it was the folks in Heaven who made me sputter and gasp–
The thieves, the liars, the sinners, the alcoholics and the trash.
There stood the kid from seventh grade who swiped my lunch money twice.
Next to him was my old neighbor who never said anything nice.Bob, who I always thought was rotting away in hell,
Was sitting pretty on cloud nine, looking incredibly well.
I nudged Jesus, ‘What’s the deal? I would love to hear Your take.
How’d all these sinners get up here?
God must’ve made a mistake.
‘And why is everyone so quiet, so somber – give me a clue.’
‘Hush, child,’ He said, ‘they’re all in shock. no one thought they’d be seeing you.’
JUDGE NOT!!
Remember…Just going to church doesn’t make you a Christian any more than standing in your garage makes you a car.
Every saint has a PAST… Every sinner has a FUTURE!Now it’s your turn… Share this poem.
I was asked to review a couple of baking mixes. Although I typically enjoy making most things from scratch, occasionally I take some short cuts and enjoy a good “cheat”.
The boxed mixes received were Dassant Truffle Brownie Mix with Chocolate Chips
and Dassant Classic Beer Bread Mix.
I made both items on the same day, they were that easy.
The Brownies – OH so moist and a little bit fudgy.
I added 2 eggs, 4 oz of a healthier choice fat, mixed the batter up and baked for 27 minutes.
Ted was excited. I was thrilled. We both loved the flavor and the chocolaty chew.
*You can even bake them lower in fat by adding ½ cup of natural applesauce instead of the fat.
The 2nd mix, Classic Beer Bread took all of 12 oz of beer (you could use soda, mineral water, or tap water) and had the option of adding butter.
I left the butter out and just poured in one entire bottle of Ginger Beer. The 9 x 5 loaf pan was sprayed with non stick spray and the batter baked up to a perfect loaf in 52 minutes.
The bread was delicious. The result of using Ginger beer made it a sweeter bread with a light crumb and crisp, buttery outside. I sprinkled Italian seasoning and brushed the top with olive oil before cooking.
I would purchase Dassant mixes again in a blink. They were so easy and so, so good.

Wow, I love that poem. What a powerful reminder what we are ALL sinners and no one is perfect! Plus it’s amazing how perception can differ to much between people – you could view something in a positive light and someone else may find it very negative. We are all unfluenced by our own ideas and biases.
Thanks for sharing that!
It got to me as well. thanks.
Both mixes look really good. I would love to try the brownie mix using coconut butter.
I’ve made a few cake mixes with just the mix and diet soda, the beer sounds like it would be great.
I’ll be trying more of their mixes for sure.
The poem is pretty funny! We should look ourselves in the mirror before judging other people! Thanks for sharing Joanne!
Exactly right. The mirror does wonders for making ourselves account for who we are and what we do.
So convenient and it produced good result!
That’s why I sometimes fall victim to the boxed mixes. They are good and so convenient.
I actually haven’t heard of Dassant, but now you’ve got me wanting to try it out! Both of these look fantastic! A perfect, quick dessert fix 🙂
Well said, Joanne. Amen!
