First I have to share what my mother said yesterday when we were discussing our dogs and the visit to South Carolina. I suggested that in order for Mocha (my mother’s Lowchen) to avoid loneliness when we all go out, we could leave Shane in the room with her. Mocha weighs all of about 12 lbs while Shane is topping 100, so this was obviously a joke. We wouldn’t do that to Mocha.
My mother then says, and thank goodness she laughed before saying this otherwise I would seriously be worried…..”We’ve found that Mocha is very quiet now when we have to leave her at home because she likes Country Music and we leave the radio on for her”. Hmmmmm. “Mum? Are you taking any new medication?”
My question for all of you is….do you think your dog or cat or guinea pig or bird…PET… is comforted by music? When it comes to Shane, I have no idea. I do know that when Ted plays the keyboard, Shane leaves the room.
CRAVING ELLIE CHOCOLATE EGG CREAM:
What a delightful recipe. It was a surprise to find a pairing of seltzer water, milk, and chocolate to be so refreshing and rewarding.
Thanks to Chaya of Comfy Cooks Blog who chose this weeks Ellie recipe, we experienced a new taste sensation. Make sure to visit Chaya’s blog. She is always offering such mouth watering recipes.
The title of the recipe is a bit deceptive since there is no egg used to make this frothy little treat. It is like an ice cream soda, as Ellie explains in her book “The Food You Crave”. If you buy large enough pretzel rods, you can use them as stir sticks. I used the tiny thin ones that I always have in the house.
Both Ted and I drank our treats in no time. Unfortunately, I made mine too small so after I’m done typing this, I’ll make another.
My only criticism: Needed more chocolate. The drink really LOOKED chocolaty enough but tasted a bit watered down.
Really good sippity-do-da drink, Chaya. Thanks for a great pick.
Joanne
Hey,Yo, stop picking on your mother, she is right, my grandfather turned the radio on when the cows were milking. Shane leaves the room because you guys are bad at playing that thing. Ha! Sam
Sam – if I played it, Shane would “howl” along with me. When Ted plays it, we all make tracks for the door. But he’s trying 🙂
Hi Joanna
Unfortunately I have some sad news about Rosie from Baking Cakes Galore, Rosie passed away yesterday. I have written up a tribute to her on my blog and I am asking everyone who knew her if they would please take some time to leave a comment. I will be printing off all the comments to pass onto her husband.
Thanks
Maria

I’m so sorry to hear of Rosie’s death. I only knew her as Rosie and will miss her creativity, support and kindness. She was a special person and my sincerely sympathies extend to her family and friends. Blessings go out to them in this time of grief and sorrow.
Mmm, these are such a treat, a real throw-back to my childhood soda shop days! Love that they’re so easy to make at home, too.
Really easy. I would increase the chocolate though
This was so funny to me. I’ve never thought that music makes a difference to Molly, but I have a feeling P does. I catch him leaving the music on a lot when we leave! 🙂 What part of SC are you traveling to?

Pawleys Island. Can’t wait!
Chocolatey drinks are my favourite, I could drink them every day!

This was my first time trying one. Not bad – needed more chocolate
That drink looks awesome and pretty guilt free in comparison to ice cream soda!

I think making it with sugar free/fat free frozen yogurt would be awesome!
Ok yours looks delicious, but I hated this. Did I do something wrong? It tasted like chocolate water to me.
It needed more chocolate – you could increase the milk and reduce the seltzer.
Your Mum is right – – I’ve been told that too, to leave the radio on when you leave your pet alone as company.
I feel sorry for my poor Darryl, when I come in at lunchtime Mom’s got the volume up to 55 and the people on The Price is Right are screaming and jumping and screaming … she wonders why DJ is upstairs most of the day?!
What kind of chocolate syrup do you prefer? We used to have Hershey’s in the house, wonder if it’s stuck in the back of the ‘fridge somewhere?!!
Poor Darryl! He’s going to need a hearing aide!
i really wonder about the music thing too. Bill likes to keep it on for pepsi and I don’t…….happy thursday!
I’ve tried with Shane but if you close the door on him – he doesn’t care what’s going on, he just barks and barks.
Ah, the egg cream. Certainly a NY thing and so good. The rest of the country does not know what they are missing.

Nope, never noticed my kitty cat liking my music, although she doesn’t run away from it either.
Yeah, it did need more chocolate. Not a fave. But it was different. Yours looks just right.

When I first read the title of this week’s recipe, this is NOT what I thought it would be! I was pleasantly surprised to read what the recipe really is 🙂 I haven’t made it yet but I will take the not chocolatey enough comment into consideration!
Both pups are sooo cute. I don’t know if Irving is soothed by music or not, but I’m sure he wishes I didn’t sing and make up so many silly songs lol

I loved it, even making your own syrup took no time. I could have used more chocolate but I thought for most people, it was fine. Maybe, I am normal about chocolate, after all.
I have hardly been anywhere for a while (Except my blogs) so I am happy to be visiting and I plan to check out some other of your delicious recipes.
Thanks for your kind words.
