Yesterday morning, just as I was about to walk out the door, the most hilarious mishap occurred.  Sometimes you really wish a video was constantly rolling to capture such moments.

Joanne:  “I gotta go”.

Ted: “I WISH I could go. I have to stay home with HIM!” … Ted was teasingly referring to Shane who was eye balling him, tongue hanging out and HUGE rope ball toy at his feet.

This rope ball is about 7” in diameter with two rope extensions on each end. Great for playing tug-of-war.

At THAT moment, Shane grabbed the toy, swung it into the air and over the kitchen island which had Ted’s freshly made strawberry protein shake quietly resting on top.

The rope toy lifted the shake into the air and it came crashing down, spraying protein drink all over the wall, and covering Shane’s back leg.

It was HILARIOUS to watch…slow motion as both Ted and Shane watch the shake fly through the air and bounce on the floor (the cup was plastic – PHEW!).

I started laughing immediately. It was just too funny to watch.  Shane was trying to lap up the shake as quickly as possible.  Ted was scrambling to get hold of Shane to clean him up (you know how dogs shake when they’re wet?!!!).  Shane had a quick “dish towel” bath as both Ted and I were laughing hysterically. Poor Shane just wanted more protein shake.   Hopefully,  he doesn’t get the idea that that’s the way to get the goodies off the counter?  I continued laughing as I mentally recapped the scene on my drive to work.  Great start to a Monday.

GREAT Quote from Runner’s World:  by Juha Vaatainen

Top results are reached only through pain.  But eventually you like this pain. You’ll find the more difficulties you have on the way, the more you will enjoy your success.

I like to think that he didn’t really mean pain but challenges.

 Flabby thoughts:

I’ve increased my carbohydrates due to running longer distances and, consequently, feel a bit more “spongy” around  the waist. Did you know that a “spare tire” can be caused by excessive sugar intake?  I’m trying not to fret too much about it.  I’m still trying to figure out the right balance of carbs to protein to fat that works best for me while running longer distances.   After October’s marathon, I’ll switch back to old percentages of  approximately 45% protein, 35% carbohydrates, and 20% fats.   I seem to feel best when I eat that way.  Maybe I shouldn’t change anything? Hmmm…there’s a thought.

Today in Jo’s Gym:  10 minutes each on the Elliptical, Rower, and Recumbent bike.  25 minutes of leg workout.  A 5 mile run outside with Shane the “protein shake” dog.

On today’s run, I practiced “system control”.  At mile 2 1/2, nature called.  It was uncomfortable but a good exercise for a “just in case” situation during a race.  Consequently, I ran slower until I saw relief in site – HOME!  Fingers crossed it never happens since it puts a damper on your goal time.

Today’s easy, flavorful week night meal. Serves 4

  • 1/2 box Cooked Elbow Noodles
  • 12 oz can water packed Tuna-drained
  • 1 TBS olive oil
  • 15 oz can Fire Roasted Tomatoes
  • 2 large plum tomatoes, chopped
  • 15 oz can Sweet peas-drained
  • 1 cup shredded carrots – boiled 3 minutes to soften
  • 8 oz vegetable broth
  • 4 large basil leaves-chopped
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp pepper
  • 1/2 cup grated cheese – to top it off

After cooking and draining the noodles and carrots, add the 1 TBS of oil to the noodles and mix around to coat. This creates a nice “mouth feel”.  Now add the carrots and everything else, except the cheese to the noodles, stir and heat to a boil.  Cover and reduce to simmer and cook 10 minutes.
