My friend Joe Mezz sent me a note raving about a really good lasagna he had at a quaint little deli along Genesee Street in Utica. Rosa’s Italian Deli – Bakery. It is tucked into a corner and if you don’t look carefully, you might just miss it. What a shame that would be.
There were four of us who enjoyed lunch at Rosa’s. Offered on the menu: fresh panini’s, hot subs, cold subs and specials which include homemade ravioli, cabbage stew, fresh lasagna, and eggplant ($6.95). They offer party trays of meats, cheeses, and COOKIES! It IS a Bakery!
There are only 5 small tables in this little place and as I sat there, people came and went with out pause. You see, I arrived about 20 minutes too early. Being a people watcher, my early arrival was good fun.
I watched a gentleman sit down. Delivered to his table was a HUGE dish of Italian Greens with Meatballs on the side. He tossed his tie over his shoulder and dug in…
I ordered a Utica special: Pepper and Egg Panini. Just the way I like it with a mixture of hot and sweet peppers, nothing spread on the bread just fresh fried egg in between two slices of delicate Panini bread. Price? $3.95. Not bad.
Eat in or take out, just go and enjoy a feast at Rosa’s!

So glad you wrote, Joanne … I’d forgotten about Rosa’s. You’re right in that it’s delicious, old time food for a good price. We’re so fortunate in our variety of excellent restaurants, both for lunch and dinner. Thanks for the good word.
Green’s and meatballs? What a smart idea. And your panini looks just great. Nothing like a sweet and spicy pepper combo.
