We dined at Charlotte’s Creekside Restaurant Lounge and Inn last night.  It is located in Vernon, NY just past the Turning Stone Casino.  A very appealling decor with a relaxing yet elegant atmosphere.  We were fortunate enough to get outside seating last evening.  It was a beautiful late afternoon, the temperature was perfect.  The sun was just beginning to settle in the sky and only heated Ted’s back for about 15 minutes which he said was tolerable.

The service at Charlotte’s was good. Everyone friendly and cheerful.  The host and one of the waitresses  had their thumbs wrapped up in bandage.  We were wondering what type of games were being played in the kitchen however, they both assured us their injuries were not related and done at different locations and times. I would have asked for a photo but somehow I think they would have balked at the suggestion.

The evening is presented in the following pictures. Our opinions of last nights dinner?  Both Ted and I believe we have had better at Charlotte’s.  Ted’s veal chop was a bit fatty.  My main course which was a special, broiled seafood platter  was excellent.  What I didn’t like was 1.  The waiter didn’t know what “starch” was.. I asked for no starch with my dinner and he said “I don’t know what that is”.  2.  As you will see in the last photo, there was a totally gross encounter of the FIRST kind.  Hence the reason for the title of this post “What was that splash?”

The Meatless Greens: Too dry. They were also too over powering in the garlic department. Not our favorite.

Such a fresh salad. So crisp and had grape tomatoes, cucumber, sliced black olives - that onion took a walk (I'm not a fan of raw onions)

The Broiled Seafood Special: Large piece of fresh haddock, 2 large sweet and moist scallops, 2 butterflied shrimp served with steamed broccoli. EXCELLENT! It was done so you simply enjoyed the fresh sweetness of the seafood and no heavy sauce.

There was a table set up inside the bar area. Someone was selling jewelry. Beautiful!

Now we move on to what really put a damper on my meal.  We asked for coffee.

I had just returned to the table from taking the photo of that bike by the stream in the yard to find our coffee served.  I was talking to Ted and poured in the cream.  My leg felt a little warm. I looked, thinking the coffee splashed – nothing. I asked Ted, he said he thought it had splashed when I put the cream in.  Oh well – didn’t get on the dress so ok.   I stirred the coffee, looked at mine, looked at Teds, why was mine DARKER?  Ted suggested that my creamer may have been only half full.  Yeah. Maybe.  I drank my coffee and when I got to the end…..

What do you do? You just drank that whole cup of coffee to find THIS in the bottom.

I felt okay. Didn’t notice anything about the taste of the coffee. But the thought…the LOOK of that GLOB!  It was really grossing me out!  Eeeewwww!

I didn’t say anything because that can happen with those little creamers. It’s no ones fault just a bad creamer.

I was wondering whether I should leave the thing in my coffee cup so the waiter would see it or to scoop it out and hide it back in the creamer cup. I left it in the cup. Let them get as grossed out as I was.

Our night at Charlotte’s was not without incident but not unpleasant.  We usually have a wonderful meal there and for anyone looking for a beautiful setting, relaxing, enjoyable atmosphere, friendly wait staff, dine at Charlotte’s Creekside Restaurant.  You can even spend the night because it is a Bed and Breakfast!

As for this morning, Shane and I enjoyed a really nice 7 mile run.  The weather was perfect and the scenery spectacular around Utica and Valley View.

Happy Saturday!
