It’s Organic with real Horizon cheese! And it’s REAL good. No GMO’s in Horizon products nor artificial colors, flavors or preservatives.  Just simple, recognizable ingredients. #MacandCheese  #Realfood

For this product review, it was fun to do a comparison with another leading brand boasting Organic and real.

The only major difference was in the noodle.  Horizon is Gluten Free so the pasta is made up of rice, lentil and corn flours.  The other brand is a 5 Grain noodle and not gluten free.

The difference in noodle shape and size is easily seen both dry and after cooking.

Horizon looks like a normal macaroni noodle.

The other brand is long and skinny with less curve.

I made both products the same way, a 3 step process (so simple!):

1.  Boil noodles for 8 – 10 minutes and drain.

2.  Add 1/4 cup of fat free skimmed milk to the saucepan and stir in the cheese sauce mix.

3.  Add back in the noodles to heat and serve immediately.  *There is the option of adding butter to both but we didn’t think they needed butter.

Both were cheese and very tasty, similar in flavor.

Approximate nutrition facts (made without butter):

290 calories, 6 grams of fat per serving and 10 grams of protein.

The texture of the rice noodle was softer but plumper which might have been the reason it felt softer and less firm on the tongue.  It was in no way unpleasant, in fact, much like a regular wheat noodle.

The other brand was slightly creamier but the sauce was thinner.

I was expecting the rice noodle to be a big disappointment based on my past experience with Gluten Free pasta but that wasn’t the case.  I don’t think even the most die-hard Mac & Cheese fan could detect a difference.

Excellent flavor. Excellent texture.  Excellent creamy, cheesy sauce.

How I ate my Organic Horizon Gluten – Free Mac?  This way:

Tossed with a little bit of diced green pepper and spring onion.  WOW!  I think I’ve discovered a new food love. #foodlove
