I can’t tell you if these finished treats are absolutely delicious or not but based on the reaction from Zoey and Shane
I think they were a complete hit!
I made these for our road trip to South Carolina. It’s a long day in the car for these two and a snack once in a while is appreciated by both. For tips and tricks when travelling with your dog, see my latest EXAMINER article.
Since the peanut butter pay load I received from The Peanut Butter boy was the purest, natural peanut butter on hand, I used 1/2 a cup to make the treats. Nothing less than the best for my babies.
Will make 15 – 20 balls depending on the size of your pet.
- 1/2 cup shredded carrots
- 1 cup cooked brown rice
- 1 cup old fashioned oats *Use 2 cups brown rice and omit the oats if your pet has grain sensitivities.
- ½ cup small bite dog food kibble
- ½ cup melted natural peanut butter
In a large bowl, combine all ingredients then roll into balls. Allow to set and store in an air tight container to take along for the ride.
*2 – 4 treats per day. Does not replace normal meals.
I have a feeling there will be someone eyeballing me during the entire 14 hour trip.
What tips can you offer for travelling with pets?
*During our last trip to S.C., we found a huge church yard to toss the Frisbee for Shane and Zoey for 15 minutes. It helped to get any extra energy out of their systems as well as loosen up the legs for dog and human.
I bet Zoey and Shane were ecstatic – gorgeous treats for adorable dogs 😀

I’m jealous of your peanut butter haul!! I’ve yet to meet a dog that wasn’t crazy about peanut butter – what a great treat for a long car ride. I definitely think the park stop and Frisbee playtime is a good idea, then they’ll be tuckered out and hopefully settle in and sleep during part of the trip. Have fun!!
