Reading about ultra running really helped to motivate me during marathon training.  I thought “If those folks can go 100 miles and endure the blisters, the heat, the extreme exhaustion, and everything else over more than 24 hours in some cases, I can certainly run through my aches and pains in under 4 hours”. If you are curious about ultra running and the stories these people tell, a good book to read is “Running Through the Wall: Personal Encounters with the Ultramarathon”.

from page 247 …

We tried to put the runner over the camel’s saddle, but he kept falling off. Just then a jeep appeared on the horizon with the other boy and two race officials.  After one look they shoved the runner’s limp body into the jeep and took off.  Two hours later I arrived at the aid station exhausted and tired.  The fallen runner was lying there with and IV in each arm.  He had recovered, and thanked me for saving his life.

From Runnersworld’s Daily kick in the butt:

It doesn’t matter what your age is, if you put the time in, you’re going to get out what you put into it.  I strongly believe that.  I feel good things will happen if you work hard. By Sheri Piers, at age 37 and setting her marathon best of 2:37:04.

GRAETER’S ICE CREAM

Who doesn’t love ice cream?!  So creamy, frozen ambrosia, an arctic custard…some of the mouth watering descriptions I found on line that did justice to this new found FAVORITE brand of the Apple Crumbles crew.

Graeter’s Ice Cream shared six flavors from its signature selection:

We had a BLAST taste testing on Easter Sunday.  There were a few questioning looks in my direction when, upon opening EACH OF ALL SIX CONTAINERS, there was a spoonful missing. I had to fess up.  I did it. I taste tested on my own before anyone else had a chance.  I couldn’t resist!

A little about Graeter’s

The brand is made in Cincinnati, OH based on century old recipes and production methodology.  The process has been perfected and makes the worlds finest ice cream .  Fresh cream, egg custard results in a chilled, dense, creamy delight.  Even Oprah said “this is the best ice cream you’ll ever taste”.

Six Signature Flavors:  Black Raspberry Chocolate Chip, Mint Chocolate Chip, Butter Pecan, Vanilla, Mocha Chip, and Classic Strawberry.

Nicholas had fun with the PURPLE one! He kept saying “Mommy likes purple”.  At age 3, he knew what he was talking about. This was GOOD!

Mint chocolate chip was my personal favorite.  In fact, there was much more than just one spoonful missing when everyone else got to it.

The Butter Pecan was extra special with HUGE pieces of candied pecans.  More please!

Steve (Nicholas’ dad) said he liked the most basic flavor: Vanilla.  He dug in and didn’t come up for air until finished.

Ted, Teddy,  and Richard grabbed the Mocha Chocolate Chip.  A fight almost broke out between the threesome.  The mocha was so good and the BIG CHOCOLATE CHIPS were too tempting to ignore.

Strawberry.  It was as refreshing and as creamy as ice cream comes.  The fresh strawberry flavor surpassed any fruit ice cream I’ve tasted.

So much for me spending hours in the kitchen making two Cassatas and Tiramisu cake.  The ice cream took the prize.

Thank you Graeter’s.  You’ve won a house full of new fans!
