The scheduled 75 minute run was a success. It was windy: ESE at 20mph gusting to 31mph.  But it wasn’t that cold, about 40 deg. The weather channel said it feels like 31 but when you’re running, that’s irrelevant.  We took it slow. Shane was anxious to get home. Today was bath day. He does love his baths.

It was a good, slow run.  I tried to ignore the wind and when it fell behind me, enjoyed the ride.

I was REALLY, REALLY, R  E  A  L  L  Y  upset this morning while making my HUGE Saturday AM omelet.  You see, last night we had dinner at one of our all time favorite local restaurants.  They know us well.  We always get the MEATLESS greens.  Last night, we didn’t have to ask for meatless because they were offering “Lenten Greens”.  Of course we ordered them.  As usual, we had left overs to use for breakfast.  As I was adding the left over greens to my morning omelet, THIS is what I saw:

DSC_3899 No kidding. It was MEAT!  Now it wasn’t a lot, the pictured piece of meat was about the size of my pinky nail but I felt ill.  I couldn’t believe they would advertise LENTEN …whatever and put MEAT in it?!!! Never again. Never again will I order greens from that restaurant.  No, I won’t say which one it was. Anyone who follows my blog can probably guess.  But I am pretty upset that the chef and the owners (whom KNOW I always ask if it contains meat) would just “poo-poo” that little fact away.  Unbelievable!

Calming it down now… after trying to get my stomach or maybe it was a mental thing, in order and out of a state of nausea, I took off to explore Tom’s Natural Foods in Clinton, New York.  I’ll be offering more on Tom’s in an Examiner article, but for now, here is a preview:   Outside and Inside of Tom’s

My intention was to simply browse, but over $70.00 later, I was hauling out the goods in a brown paper bag.  I can never get out of a Natural Foods store without opening my wallet.

Believe it or not, there was STILL grocery shopping to do.  You would drop right there in your tracks if I mentioned how much Ted and I spend on groceries each week.  I like to think it’s because we buy so much fresh produce. But I actually think it’s because I like having everything under the sun in my own pantry.  Let’s face it, when you enjoy cooking and making up your own recipes as I do, you want to be ready for those sudden fits of creativity.

Just in case one such “fit” happens within the next 6 weeks, I bought this:

It’s sugar cane (it will last 6 weeks in the fridge)…and I bet you thought it was a stick of bamboo?!!!

More on sugar cane later.  For now, what you do is peel the outer skin and eat the meat.  I have never worked with pure sugar cane so it will be interesting to see what I can do with it.  If Shane sees it, he may swipe it in an attempt to get us to throw it for him.

We didn’t venture down to the crowded streets of Utica in celebration of St. Patrick’s day so we had our own green beer at home:

Notice the cool mug:  “The Green Man Pub” that would be Harrods in London. Not sure if that’s one Ted and I picked up while in the UK or if Mum and Dad simply forgot to take it to South Carolina.  Either way, I like it and I think I’ll keep it.  Just in case:  Thanks DAD!

What’s up next?  I have a Shamrock and Top Hat Bundt Cake on order.  It’s all ….GREEN!  Check back soon  …Happy Saturday!  Did you drink GREEN BEER today?
